For Authors
You can submit your articles for publication in the magazine. These could be anything including columns, tutorials, reviews, interviews, news, press releases, etc.
The material must meet the following requirements:
-
Relevance. You can choose one of the following topics: computer or console game development; programming; 2D or 3D computer graphics; 3D modeling; rendering; shaders; animation; photography and cinematography; VFX; digital painting; digital sound and music production; game design; game script writing; software reviews; game reviews; cross-platform application development; licensing; publishing; distribution or project promotion; reports from various conferences; exhibitions; meetups and demo parties; interesting facts from the history of games and computers; hardware and platform reviews; IT news; reviews of useful websites and services; materials about Linux and other alternative operating systems; the hacker movement and Internet culture; crypto-anarchism; freedom of speech and expression.
-
Reasonable length. We consider materials of any length, but we recommend sticking to the optimal: 1-4 pages of printed text per article.
-
Compliance with literary, grammatical, and legal norms. Obscene language is prohibited. Information prohibited by the Law of the Netherlands is not permitted for publication. The possibility of posting legal 18+ content is considered by the editors on a case-by-case basis (this primarily applies to adult games and erotic imagery; we recommend that you exercise particular caution and remain within the bounds of appropriateness when dealing with such topics). Please avoid excessive use of Internet jargon and adhere to a neutral/journalistic style to a reasonable extent.
-
Liberal Ethics. Right infringement, verbal insults, hate speech, and any sort of discriminative intention are prohibited. Be tolerant and respect others. We do not publish political propaganda; content with a military or patriotic bias (in favor of any nation); articles related to religion; articles denying the values of humanism and freedom, promoting violence, hatred, enmity, extremist or totalitarian ideology, superiority, collective guilt, and moral relativism.
-
Originality. Exclusivity is encouraged, but not required; we don't object to material that has already been published elsewhere, and we don't prohibit its further publication. The main thing is that it is yours and doesn't infringe anyone's copyright. Our policy regarding copying other people's material is as follows: verbatim copying (without rewriting) is permitted only from open sources such as encyclopedias with a mandatory link to the source. Copying from copyrighted sources is permitted if the authors explicitly permit copying. In any case, it is preferable not to copy, but to rewrite the text in your own words. Translation of foreign-language articles is also permitted; however, a link to the original is required, and its copyright holder must permit creation of derivative works.
-
Author's consent to our terms. The FPS magazine and all its materials are distributed non-commercially under a Creative Commons Attribution Noncommercial Share Alike (CC-BY-NC-SA) license. By submitting materials to the editorial team, you agree to the perpetual royalty-free use of the materials under the terms of this license by the editors and, subsequently, by its readers and others. Since the magazine is non-commercial, we cannot offer royalties. Collaboration with the FPS is based solely on creative enthusiasm.
AI-Generated Content Policy
We strongly disapprove of attempts to pass off texts, images, and other content generated by AI as original works. This is unfair to our audience, who value attribution and individuality in creativity. Therefore, we do not accept any materials that are not original, written entirely using ChatGPT or other similar AI services, for publication in the magazine. You may use AI partially (for example, to generate illustrations or small parts of the text), but in this case, a note indicating that AI were used in the creation of the article is required. Such materials will be thoroughly fact-checked and verified for originality before publication.
In general, we adhere to the following principle: machine-generated content is not art or literature. It's simply a distinct type of information, which may or may not be useful and interesting. FPS magazine will always prioritize honest journalism done by real people.
Recommendations for writing press releases:
-
A press release is not an advertisement, but, first and foremost, an informational message. Its purpose is to convey useful information about a product or event to a general public interested in receiving such information. Therefore, it should contain facts, verifiable data, and expertise, not mere personal opinions. For example, if you're writing about a product, you should provide an objective description of its features and capabilities, avoiding praise and marketing cliches. Technical specifications, system requirements, benchmark results, and the like are appropriate in a press release. It's inappropriate to make statements that cannot be proven or disproven, or to attribute characteristics to a product that cannot be measured or assessed.
-
The information should be interesting and professionally oriented towards the audience of the FPS magazine (these are gamers, developers, game designers, 3D artists, animators, etc.).
-
The information must be relevant to a worldwide audience. For example, it could be an announcement of a publicly available product (game, software, book, website, online course, service) or an upcoming event (international conference, exhibition, meetup, or a competition). Please avoid sending us local news or any information we cannot verify.
-
The press release must be up-to-date and not contain outdated or inaccurate information. We recommend sending news about an upcoming event no later than 7 days before the event.
-
Information should be presented in an accessible, popular format, in simple terms, and, if possible, without technical jargon or highly specialized terminology. Also inappropriate are artistic turns of phrase, idioms, humor, and overly emotional content.
-
The preferred format is a brief, journalistic-style news release, no more than one page of printed text. The press release text should be written specifically for publication in news feeds, and not simply copied directly from documentation, a scientific article, an official website, or advertising materials. It is highly recommended that the press release be prepared by a professional copywriter.
-
We strongly recommend that you include illustrative material (images, screenshots, infographics, presentations, etc.) with your press release.
A press release that does not meet these guidelines will be given a low priority by the editors, may take longer to be reviewed for publication, and will likely undergo significant revision.
Recommended text formats: DOC, ODT, TXT (plain text, UTF-8). Recommended image formats: PNG, JPG (we recommend saving screenshots and photographs in JPEG, and graphs and diagrams in PNG). Files for submission should be archived in ZIP, RAR, 7Z, TAR.GZ, or TAR.BZ2 formats.
